Llevar + Time
Meaning
Use llevar with an amount of time to say that someone has been doing something for that long.
How to use it
Use llevar + amount of time + gerund for an action that started in the past and is still continuing:
Llevo dos años viviendo en Barcelona.
Use llevar + amount of time + sin + infinitive to say how long something has not happened:
Llevo dos semanas sin verlo.
Examples
Llevo dos años viviendo en Barcelona.
I have been living in Barcelona for two years.
Llevamos media hora esperando el autobús.
We have been waiting for the bus for half an hour.
¿Cuánto tiempo llevas estudiando español?
How long have you been studying Spanish?
Llevo dos semanas sin verlo.
I haven’t seen him for two weeks.
Quick note
Conjugate llevar for the person doing the action. The following verb stays as a gerund, or as an infinitive after sin.
