También and Tampoco in Spanish

También means also or too. Use it to add or agree with a positive idea.

Tampoco means neither or not either. Use it to add or agree with a negative idea.

Examples

  • Me gusta bailar. A Marta también. — I like dancing. Marta does too.
  • Ana estudia español y yo también. — Ana studies Spanish, and I do too.
  • No me gusta correr. A Luis tampoco. — I don’t like running. Luis doesn’t either.
  • Marta no toma café y yo tampoco. — Marta doesn’t drink coffee, and neither do I.

Short answers

These expressions are very common in short replies:

  • Me gusta el café. — I like coffee.A mí también. — Me too.
  • No me gusta correr. — I don’t like running.A mí tampoco. — Me neither.

With other verbs, you can simply say:

  • Yo también. — Me too.
  • Yo tampoco. — Me neither.
