Use a form of querer, poder, or necesitar followed by an infinitive to say what someone wants, can, or needs to do.

Examples

Quiero aprender español.

I want to learn Spanish.

Queremos viajar a México.

We want to travel to Mexico.

Puedo estudiar por la mañana.

I can study in the morning.

No puedo trabajar hoy.

I cannot work today.

Necesito comprar un diccionario.

I need to buy a dictionary.

Watch out

Only the first verb changes. Keep the second verb in the infinitive: Quiero comer, not Quiero como.

Necesitar follows the regular present-tense pattern. Compare this structure with tener que + infinitive for obligations and ir a + infinitive for plans.
