Meaning

Darse cuenta de means to realise, to become aware of, or to notice something.

How to use it

Use darse cuenta de + noun or darse cuenta de que + clause. Conjugate dar and use the matching reflexive pronoun: me doy cuenta, te das cuenta, se dio cuenta, and so on.

Examples

No me di cuenta del cambio.

I didn’t notice the change.

¿Te has dado cuenta de la hora?

Have you noticed the time?

Laura se dio cuenta de que había olvidado las llaves.

Quick note

In standard Spanish, keep de before a noun or que: me di cuenta de que…, not me di cuenta que…
