Ir a + Infinitive

Use ir a + infinitive to talk about a plan or something that is going to happen soon.

The pattern

present form of ir + a + infinitive

Voy a estudiar esta tarde.

I am going to study this afternoon.

Vas a comprar pan.

You are going to buy bread.

Marta va a trabajar mañana.

Marta is going to work tomorrow.

Vamos a comer en casa.

We are going to eat at home.

Mis amigos van a visitar Madrid.

My friends are going to visit Madrid.

Use the correct present form of ir, but do not change the second verb.

Watch out

Do not remove a: say Voy a estudiar, not Voy estudiar. This is related to other verb + infinitive patterns, but ir needs the extra a.
