Ask a conversational follow-up while leaving the rest of the question understood.

  • conversation

Meaning / Usage

This -고? / -고요? is used at the end of a conversational question. The speaker leaves out the rest because the listener can easily infer it from the context.

It often asks for an update or moves to the next part of a topic: “And…?”, “How about…?”, or “So, is…?” A rising tone makes the unfinished form sound like a question.

-고? is casual. -고요? is polite and usually sounds softer. Although it uses the same form as connective -고, the purpose here is not simply to join two complete actions with “and.”
